As this is my first post in 2019, and you may be new to me, I thought I’d write a little post so you find out a little bit about me.
So, this is me (well I do have shorter hair now!). I absolutely dread having my own photograph taken – which is why this is a little out of date – so I understand how daunting it can be for people who aren’t comfortable in front of the camera.
I think this helps me relate to people even more and try to make them feel comfortable and natural in their images. It’s something that I pride myself on, and by the time my clients are having their photographs taken, we’ve chatted, shared ideas and had a few laughs so that they can feel that they’re with a friend rather than a stranger.
When I’m not out and about shooting (my car does ALOT of miles!) you’ll find me in my gallery and workspace, either editing or doing so much else that’s required when you run your own business. I’d say more than 70% of my time is not shooting, so it was really important to me to have a dedicated workspace that I can work from and not get distracted by my cats. I have one who is a complete time stealer and loves nothing more than a snooze on a warm lap…
I moved into my space about 18 months ago and with my ever patient husband’s hard work, made this space completely ‘me’. Its bright, welcoming and usually smells of fresh coffee!
My cosy lounge area is where clients meet with me to chat about their event – usually weddings, but also family photo sessions and special events. Then it becomes a cinematic viewing area for viewing portfolios and choosing your favourite images to become art in your own home. Many people walk in and say how cosy and welcoming it feels. I’m immensely proud of this as it’s exactly part of my vision.
Most of my work is centred around weddings, and I absolutely love them! Each one is unique and I feel like I’m really part of the day, often I’ve seen pinterest boards and really understand a couples dream. It helps me to focus on what’s important to them and capture their dreams and memories. I love all the natural interactions and stories going on during a wedding day, so I’m usually constantly moving around looking for the right moment – you know, the ones you simply cannot stage. They’re often my and the couples favourites too!
As well as the ‘moments’ that happen throughout the day, it’s wonderful to have a few posed portraits – but with me, even these will feel relaxed and natural.
And if a couple has a special request for their portraits, I will plan this in with them and their schedule.
Weddings aren’t just about portraits of people though, they’re about bringing all your dreams and plans together. Details and styling are so important to capture, they’re the elements that you’ve added to your mood boards and that you want to remember too, so I love to add these images to your collection too.
Another thing that I’m really keen to do, and pride myself on is giving a really personal service, people ask me how involved I’ll get in a day. While my style of photography is unobtrusive – people forget I’m there – it gets the most natural and beautiful images. My answer is that I get as involved as you want! Often if I can help I absolutely will – this usually means attaching button holes, supplying tissues, and of course tying up trains ready for first dances!
I don’t just photograph weddings, I love to capture any type of portraits. As long as we can have some fun, I love to get involved, and when people ask if they can bring their pets, the answer is always yes!! My approach to family photo sessions is the same as weddings – ‘let’s have some fun and keep the images natural and relaxed’ it’s why I love being outdoors where children and play, families can spend quality time together and stories can be told.
My newest stream of photography is brand photography, and I’m really excited about this. I work with business to tell their business story, so rather than just products or headshots on a plain background, I visit your work environment and capture the essence of what you do, whether that’s a product or service.
So that’s me and what I do in a nutshell. If you would like to know more about my services, and how I work then the best thing is to get in touch via my contact form and make an appointment to come and see my workspace, drink coffee (or tea) and chat more.
